De Watersnip is a takeaway-only coffeeshop located in Amsterdam West. The shop’s name refers to the “Common snipe”, a small bird native to Europe. This bird was featured on the 100 Dutch Guilders banknote, commonly called “De Snip”, which was withdrawn from circulation in 2002. A large mural of this banknote as well as a real snipe taxidermy are on display inside the coffeeshop.

Located in a largely residential area, De Watersnip primarily draws a local crowd as opposed to the throngs of tourists seen in Amsterdam Centrum. De Watersnip’s classic menu features a selection of traditional strains as well as import hashes and pre-rolled joints. Additionally, De Watersnip is a retailer of Amsterdam Genetics’ famous Spacetry, cannabis-infused gourmet desserts, designed by a Michelin star chef. Smoking is not permitted inside of this shop, but there is space to roll up and enjoy a beverage before leaving.
